“Since successfully playing host to Tim McGraw’s tour last summer, it has been our mission to continue showcasing our facility as a premier concert venue,” Kentucky Speedway Executive Vice President and General Manager Mark F. Cassis said. “Delivering on that strategy isn’t always easy because our speedway is very busy with race-related events, so, to be able to bring in several popular artists for one big show really has our team excited.”
Kentucky Speedway will convert its 66,089-seat motorsports facility into a 20,000-seat concert venue featuring 14,000 lower grandstand seats and a 6,000 fan capacity on-track, standing-room-only, VIP area with access to private concession and restroom areas. The speedway will roll back its fencing to ensure grandstand guests an unencumbered view of the performances and position staircases on its frontstretch to give fans convenient access to the VIP area.
Musicians will entertain on a 200-foot stage positioned between the paved quarter-mile track and the apron of the speedway 1.5-mile tri-oval. The set-up also will feature two 30-foot video screens and accompanying state-of-the-art speaker banks.
“It’s important to keep our venue in the forefront of the music industry by creating a unique atmosphere for artists that accommodates our guests’ desire for modern-day amenities,” Cassis added.
Reserved grandstand tickets priced from $55 to $75 went on sale at May 27. On-track VIP tickets are $85. Tickets can be reserved through the Kentucky Speedway at 1-888-652-RACE (7223), online at www.kentuckyspeedway.com and through all Meijer stores. Speedway gates will open at 4 p.m., on event day and performances will begin at 5 p.m.
Jackson has sold more than 44 million albums featuring more than 31 No. 1 country hits, including 21 he penned himself. He is the most-nominated artist in CMA history and has earned more than 95 major industry awards. Jackson’s recent gospel album release, “Precious Memories,” rose to No. 1 on the “Billboard” magazine country music album chart and is certified Gold by the RIAA.
Big and Rich’s 2004 debut album, “A Horse of a Different Color,” sold more than two million copies after its smash single, “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy,” was quickly embraced by country radio listeners. The duo’s second album, “Comin’ To Your City,” went multi-platinum when its title single realized similar success. Special guest Cowboy Troy will accompany the blockbuster duo during Summer Night Jam 2006.
The 69-year-old Haggard began his legendary career in 1967 with a streak of 37 straight Top 10 hits that included 23 No. 1 singles such as “Okie From Muskogee,” “Mama Tried,” “Let’s Chase Each Other Around The Room” and many more. His original, distinctive sound and style draws from many influences such as country, jazz, blues and folk music. Many of Haggard’s albums from the 1960s and 1970s will be digitally remastered and re-released later this year.
Carter’s sixth and most recent album, “The Story of My Life,” was released in March 2005 on Vanguard Records and features the songs “The Girl You Left Me For,” “One Day At A Time,” and the title single. Carter’s debut album, “Did I Shave My Legs For This?” included the 1997 Single of the Year, “Strawberry Wine.”
