LA GRANGE, Ky. (May 2005) Even though he is
no longer playing basketball for a professional team, Winston Bennett
still uses sports terms to describe himself. Now a successful businessman,
Bennett refers to himself as a success coach.
A graduate of Male High School and former University of
Kentucky and Cleveland Cavaliers basketball player, Bennett has now
turned to motivational speaking. Through his motivational speaking business,
Bennett promotes his ideology of Fight for Your Life.
He has created a radio show based on this idea. He will be co-hosting
the Winston Bennett Show with La Grange, Ky., businessman Wayne Pierce
Jr. Broadcast from Clear Channel Communications in Louisville, the show
will air at 9 a.m. Saturdays on WKJK 1080 AM.
We both had the idea for a show, said Bennett of his co-host.
Pierce was already contributing to a show through his Classic
Mortgage Big Talk on Small Business, hosted by Steve and Kelly
Kuerzi. Pierce said the Kuerzis have mentored him and are the first
father-and-daughter radio team.
Pierce is vice president of Classic Mortgage Inc. in La Grange. He and
his wife, Toni, have owned this business for the past four years, and
the couple lives in Bedford, Ky.
Pierce met Bennett after hearing him speak. He was impressed and kept
in touch with him. Both men jumped at the opportunity to host a radio
show together.
After putting their heads together and considering the content of the
show, they decided on a format. They will discuss success and how to
keep focused to achieve your dreams.
People want more out of life, said Bennett. You have
to push your life to the next level.
Bennett said he wants to help as many people as he possibly can, relying
on his experiences in the athletic world, while Pierce supplies his
business knowledge. Together, the two have created a working partnership
geared to bring hope to those who need it.
Bennett will speak about the trials of life and how to overcome struggles.
This show is not geared for athletes only but for all genres of people.
He said the one constant in his life is his belief in the Lord.
Bennett said there have been too many speakers in his past to name who
have motivated him. One that does stand out is his pastor, Bishop Michael
Ford.
In a world of negativity, we have to work to put possibility into our
lives, Bennett said. The Winston Bennett Show Fight For Your Life,
will feature a variety of guests, such as prominent University of Louisville
basketball star Darrell Griffith, local athletes turned professional,
and successful local business people.
Pierce said future goals include the possibility of turning this once-a-week
show into a daily show. The co-hosts will be taking calls during the
show at (502) 571-1080.
They are also seeking show sponsors to air commercials during the show
and guest spots for individuals to talk about their businesses.
