LOUISVILLE, Ky. (August 2012) – Authors serious about writing success will have a chance to hone their skills at an upcoming two-day event in Louisville. The Business of Writing International Summit will outline the basics of the business-side of writing from A to Z.
Topics to be discussed and covered include International Marketing, eBooks, Social Media, Book Marketing, Promotion and Self-Publishing.
The Business of Writing International Summit will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11., with breakfast and lunch provided. It will continue from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, with breakfast provided. The summit will take place at the University of Louisville Shelby Campus, 9001 Shelbyville Rd.
A bevy of speakers and exhibitors from around the world will share the latest in strategies, tools and resources necessary to grow a business as an author or writer. There will be 26 sessions, speakers from four different states and two different countries. Reservations must be made as space is limited to 150 attendees.
This summit is being produced by Darby Press, a publishing company in Louisville. It is the umbrella corporation covering all activities of author Peggy DeKay.
“My wife and I go to writer’s conferences all over the region,” said DeKay’s husband, Larry DeKay, publicist for Darby Press. “We’ve never been to one like one we would like to attend. Most writers’ conferences focus on the craft of writing, not the business of writing.”
DeKay said “writer’s conferences are held almost every weekend somewhere in the country. We attended one in Clarksville, Tenn., that was a prestigious event with 85 attendees and a Pulitzer Prize winning author spoke. But these events don’t have any trade exhibitors.”
He said you might find exhibitors at a national level show, such as the Romance Writer’s of America, but “we decided we needed exhibitors at our summit.” The only other writer’s conference that ever comes to Louisville is a one-day women’s conference, said DeKay.
The keynote speaker will be Andrea Gardner, a resident of Glasgow, Scotland. Gardner created the You-Tube video sensation known as The Power of Words, which has had more than 14 million downloads worldwide.
“It’s an amazing video,” said DeKay. “The message in her video is something we can all benefit by.” This experience led Gardner to write “Change Your Words, Change Your World,” a 2012 best-selling book published by Hay House Inc. “The book continues the message the video began,” DeKay said.
Gardner is a qualified Heal Your Life coach who trained in this discipline to help people re-shape their inner dialogues and take back their lives. She is a clinical hypnotherapist and Reiki Master. Gardner conducts self-development workshops in the U.K. and has delivered corporate seminars in such locales as London, Cairo and Scotland.
Gardner is also a writer and online content specialist. She began her varied career in newspaper marketing and feature writing before going online and establishing her own company, Purplefeather, in 2003.
DeKay said that by divine intervention, the original keynote speaker that was scheduled for the summit cancelled unexpectedly. He contacted Gardner and she volunteered to speak about her video.
Peggy DeKay will speak three times at the summit. She is a professional book coach, instructor and speaker. “She opens all of her classes and workshops with Gardner’s video,” said DeKay.

• Tickets can be purchased for the two day summit for $199. For more information or to register for The Business of Writing International Summit, visit www.BusinessofWritingSummit.com.
